VALATIE, N.Y.—Tierra Farm, a certified organic manufacturer and distributor of granola, nuts, dried fruit, coffee and chocolate products based in Valatie, N.Y., recently redesigned the packaging for its entire line of certified-organic granolas.

Switching from 16 oz. tamper-evident, semi-rigid plastic containers to sustainably-made, resealable and tamper-proof 20 oz. bags, Tierra Farm was focused on both ease of storage and ease of consumption when it came to packaging its 10 varieties.

“Our granolas make for a great-tasting, healthy snack or breakfast, which means you need to be able to grab a handful whenever you want,” said Todd Kletter, CEO. “The design of our new bags makes that even easier, plus the extra 4 oz. means you don’t have to keep running back to the store to grab more.” For Kletter, portability, convenience and freshness were all key drivers behind the redesign.

Kletter explained that you can tilt the bag and pour just like you would a bag of cereal, which was another motivating factor. “In fact, it’s our hope that more stores and food coops who sell our granolas, choose to stack them in the cereal aisle,” he said. Outdoor adventurers will love how the flexible packaging means stuffing a bag in your pack is a breeze, or stashing a bag in your car for a powerful on-the-go energy boost. It’s also easier for kids to handle, he said. They’ve also noticed an uptick in granola sales at their retail location in Valatie since they made the change.

Tierra Farm’s Organic Pistachio Mulberry Granola and Organic Maple Ginger Cashew Granola are among the Farm’s top sellers, and remain true to their name in terms of their ingredient lists. All of Tierra Farm’s products are produced in small, hand-crafted batches and are 100% certified organic, certified gluten-free, certified kosher and GMO-free. Raw products are responsibly sourced from organic growers throughout the world, and flavoring ingredients are developed and produced in-house. To meet the immediate demand for its products at outlets in the western U.S., Tierra Farm recently opened a satellite facility in a suburb of Denver, Colorado.
